How to Make Pizza at Home in Oven

Love pizza? Then why not learn how to make pizza at home? When you make your own pizza, you not only save some cash but also get to make it the way you’ve always wanted it. Also, pizza made at home guarantees freshness. Here is how to make pizza at home in oven from scratch.

  1. Proofing the Yeast

Pour warm water into a large mixing bowl. Pour yeast and allow it to dissolve in the warm water. After a few minutes, the water and yeast mixture will start to bubble.

  1. Mix Other Dough Ingredients

Mix in the flour, salt, and olive oil. Stir the mixture using your hand or a stand mixer. Ensure you use the dough mixing hook.  Keep mixing until you get a wet dough form. Continue mixing until the dough is elastic and smooth.

If you are mixing by hand, the dough can be a bit hard to stir as it becomes firm and thicken. You can knead with your fist to obtain the right texture. If the dough is still wet, you can add a bit of flour until you obtain the right texture.

  1. Allow the Dough to Rise

Once you have obtained the right texture, form the dough into a ball and transfer it to a clean bowl that is coated with a bit of olive oil. Cover the dough with a dishcloth, muslin cloth or a plastic wrap. Place the bowl in a warm area in your kitchen and leave it for about 2 hours. This gives the dough time to rise.

You can also place the dough in the refrigerator. This will take up to 6 hours to achieve the desired results. If you do not intend to use the dough on the same day, then you can freeze it. When you are ready to make the pizza, you can simply remove it from the freezer and let it sit out as it defrosts and rises.

  1. Preheating the Oven To 425°F (218°C)

You need to preheat your oven to 210 degrees before you start baking the pizza. Ensure you preheat it as you prepare the dough as this gives the oven plenty of time to get hot. If you have an oven that cools easily, you can turn up the temperature to 450°F (232°C).  It is no different for outdoor pizza ovens.

If you are using a pizza stone or baking stone, you need to place it in the oven to preheat too. Baking sheets too can be placed in the oven to preheat.

  1. Forming the Crust

Cut your dough into two parts and shape them into large balls. On your working surface, roll one of the balls into a round shape and strength it as much as possible. Do the same for the second ball once the first one is ready.

Using a pastry brush, coat the dough with a thin layer of olive oil.

  1. Place Your Toppings on The Crust

Spread your pizza sauce onto your crust and follow through with your toppings. Ensure you do not overdo the toppings as this may prevent the crust from getting crispy. Finish the topping by spreading your favorite cheese.

Sprinkle your baking sheet with a bit of cornmeal and transfer the pizza onto the baking sheet or pizza stone. Place it in the oven and allow it to bake for about 20 minutes. You know it is ready when the crust is golden in color and the cheese is bubbly.
